Besani Fish In Onion And Tomato Gravy


Hello and welcome to my corner again. Usually, on weekends, I prefer to make nonvegetarian dishes. And this Sunday I made a simple fish curry which was delicious and liked by everyone. The dish was Besani Fish In Onion And Tomato Gravy. In the dish, I have coated the boneless fish pieces in a second marination of a spicy gram flour batter and then shallow fried it adding into a spicy and flavourful gravy of onions and tomatoes. I hope you will like the recipe too and try making it sometime pretty soon. So let’s start with the recipe—

Ingredients:-For the fish marination-

  1. Fish(boneless)-250 gms
  2. Salt-According to taste
  3. Turmeric Powder-1 tsp
  4. Garlic Paste-1 tsp

For the gram flour coating

  1. Gram Flour or Besan-300 gms
  2. Salt-According to taste
  3. Turmeric Powder-1/2 tsp
  4. Red Chilly Powder-1/2 tsp
  5. Garam Masala-1/2 tsp
  6. Dry Mango Powder-1/2 tbsp
  7. Vegetable Oil-For shallow frying

For the gravy

  1. Onions-2
  2. Ginger-Garlic Paste-1 tsp
  3. Red Chilly Powder-1 tsp
  4. Coriander Powder-1 tsp
  5. Cumin Powder-1 tsp
  6. Tomato Puree-2 tbsp
  7. Garam Masala-1 tsp
  8. Salt-According to taste
  9. Green Chillies-2
  10. Vegetable oil-1 tbsp
  11. Cilantro or fresh cream-For garnish

For the tempering of the gravy

  1. Cinnamon-1 stick
  2. Cardamom-1
  3. Clove-2
  4. Bay Leaf-1
  5. Cumin-1/2 tsp


Step 1

DSC03251.jpgWash and marinate the fish with salt, turmeric powder, and garlic paste and keep it inside the refrigerator for 3 hrs. Use boneless fish for this recipe. Here I have used Roopchanda variety of fish. You can use any other boneless variety also.

Step 2

Now take a bowl. Add gram flour and other given ingredients and make a slightly thick batter of it. Coat the fish pieces in it and shallow fry them in oil. Put on a tissue paper to remove unnecessary oil.

Step 3

DSC03259Now take a wok, add cumin and the tempering ingredients. Next, add chopped onions and ginger-garlic paste and saute for two minutes. Now add all the spices mentioned above and fry for a minute. Now add tomato puree and saute again for two minutes. And then add some onion paste and fry it to remove its rawness. Lastly, add the fried fish and water to make the gravy. Add a pinch of sugar too to get that extra flavor. Simmer the gravy on medium flame before switching the gas off. You can garnish with some chopped green chilies, cilantro or fresh cream.

Red Lentil And Onion Fritters


Hi, dear friends.Welcome to my space again. Today I’m sharing a snack recipe made from red lentil and onions which is super tasty, crunchy and will leave you addicted to its taste. It can be had with tea and puffed rice mixture in the evening or at brunch time. So let’s start making it—


  1. Red Lentil – 300 gms.
  2. Onions(finely chopped) – 1.
  3. Green Chillies (finely chopped)- 2.
  4. Asafoetida or Hing -A Pinch.
  5. Salt – According to taste.
  6. Chopped fresh coriander -A handful.


Step 1 

Wash and soak the red lentils for four hours. Grind the lentil slightly coarsely.

Step 2 

Add chopped onions, green chilies, salt, asafoetida, and coriander to the lentil batter.

Step 3 

Mix it up well. Heat oil in a wok. When it is hot add dollops of the batter in the oil and fry it up.

Step 4

Take out the fritters on a tissue paper and serve with green chutney or green chilly sauce.

Our Red Lentil Fritters are ready.

Vegetable Fritters


Hello friends and welcome back. Today we’ll be making fritters, a crunchy, crispy, spicy dish made from different vegetables like cauliflower, potato, onion, lady finger, brinjal, raw banana, green chillies. These fritters are easy to make and taste great. So let us pack some fun in fritters and start with our recipe—


  1. Cauliflower(cut into florets) – 1
  2. Potato(big) – 2
  3. Onions – 3
  4. Lady Fingers – 100 gms
  5. Brinjal – 1
  6. Raw bananas – 3
  7. Green Chillies – 50 gms
  8. Rice Flour – 250 gms
  9. Wheat flour or refined white flour(maida)or cornflour – 50 gms
  10. Salt – According to taste
  11. Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  12. Red chilly powder – 1 tsp
  13. Garam masala powder – 2 tsp
  14. Asafoetida or hing – A pinch
  15. Vegetable oil – For frying.
  16. Chaat masala -Optional.


Step 1

Wash and cut the veggies in any shape and size you want.

Step 2

Now take a bowl. Add to it the given amounts of rice flour, wheat flour, salt, turmeric powder, red chilly powder,garam masala powder, asafoetida and add to it water to make a batter of dropping consistency.

Step 3

Coat the veggies in the batter. Heat oil in a vessel. And drop the veggies one by one in the hot oil. Fry them for five minutes or till lightly browned and take out of the oil and drain on tissue paper.

Step 4

Sprinkle some chaat masala on the fried fritters. .Serve this fun-filled fritter magic with tomato or green chilly ketchup.

Note points – 1. It’s important to slit the ends of green chillies and ladyfingers.

2. The consistency of the batter must be proper. It must not be too thick or thin.
